A former schoolteacher has been found guilty of a slew of offences which saw him abuse his position by engaging in sexual activity with two students.
Anthony Redmond, 54, of Fort Austin Avenue, Plymouth, stood trial at Plymouth Crown Court following an investigation by detectives.
He pleaded not guilty to a series of offences – five counts of abuse of a position of trust by engaging in sexual activity with one girl aged under 18, two counts of abuse of a position of trust by engaging in sexual activity with a second girl and one count of indecency with a child.
The offences covered a period during the 2000s when Redmond was a geography teacher at a school in Plymouth.
The offences took place at his home at that time, on school premises, at a hotel and at another location. One incident happened in a school cupboard.
The jury at Plymouth Crown Court heard from one of the victims who said she was left feeling “used and worthless” by Redmond. The court heard that Redmond took the virginity of both his victims.
Redmond denied the charges, but the jury found him guilty by unanimous verdict of all the offences.
Redmond’s legal advocate, Ali Rafiti requested a pre-sentence report was carried out, noting that his client was of previous good character. Judge Robert Linford agreed and granted Redmond bail, telling him he would be sentenced on February 10.
